** To keep God with you means to keep His teachings, His shrimat with you. Keep your thoughts, words and deeds as the proof of shrimat.
Where there is attachment, i.e. I and mineness, there will definitely be a lack of faith. And where is the certainty that who is with me...? So there is a carefree situation.
When the situation comes to take the paper, then we get down from our stable state of mind and start facing it alone, and fail to pass the paper...! That's why you and Baba (Supreme Soul Shiva) practice this combined form.
